Benefits of Online Games for Preschoolers

When preschool children are exposed to online games, the results are phenomenal. The vivid pictures combined with words allow children to phonics without them even realizing it. Talk about learning reading skills while having fun

Math sites are even more numerous. Cute little animal characters bee bop around the screen offering kids all kinds of incentives to play. Many math sites are aimed at children from 2 to 5 years old. While this may sound young to you, it is a perfect age. Kids have the hand eye coordination to move a mouse and click a button. The characters sing and dance away, encouraging them to count along.

Benefits of Online Games for Middle School

My middle school students have sat there and played Sudoku and that race car game for hours. (It was after a standardized test.) Granted, they did not have much else to do in class but they also did not complain either. They often ask to go to these sites and play the games.

While the math games are more popular for middle school students, some kids really like the science games. It really depends on the kid’s interest. I have seen kids really get into stock market games and business games. There is one online game site that has kids building elaborate empires. It is completely free and they do everything from running factories and building web pages.

Downloads for the iPod

If you have a teen in your house, you have definitely heard about iPod apps. It may be worth considering letting your pre-teen, teen or tween download a few education games for the iPod. There are a couple of free games and a few games that you can get for a fee that are educational.

Many of the iPod games are just like the online versions except smaller. You won’t get as many levels and the graphics aren’t quite as good.

If you are getting it for your toddler, I would check out of the free version first. Oftentimes, you can find a “Lite” version of the games. These are super simple versions that only have a 5-minute trial or just one level.

In any case, educational games are out there and are worth checking out. Look around and you will see.

Not so long ago pub style games we much more popular. They are gaining steam. More and more people are trying to find ways to enjoy entertainment at home at a much lower cost to them. I think the recession for this part has been beneficial to the family unit becoming a closer unit. Families are getting to spend more time interacting with one another. So, what is an inexpensive way to entertain older kids? Pub style games are great. Turn that basement or garage into a game room and add a pool table or billiards table. Throw a dartboard or dart cabinet up add card table. Now I know pool tables aren’t inexpensive, but a table for cards, board games, or puzzles can be any kind of table. Dartboards are really an inexpensive way to get your game room up and running.

Darts have long been associated with pub style games and is a great way to spend time with your family and friends. There are plenty of opportunities to talk with you kids and for your kids to feel that they are on the same level with you. They possibly are more likely to talk to you. Nonetheless, for an hour or two you will have a great deal of fun interacting with your family and your friends. Have a certain night dedicated to pizza, cokes and games and see what kind of night you can have. Who knows, you may find out that this is just what your kids needed. A game of darts with the family, isn’t it worth a try?

Having written some articles on party games for kids, I was asked to explain my formula for a successful kids party. So here it is… in this 4-part series you will find out my 4 essential rules for planning a successful kids party, why a party plan works, the 7 steps of a good party plan and how to use a party plan to ensure a successful kids party.

The key to my formula for a successful kids party is concentrated around 4 essential rules.

1.      Keep it simple. By this I mean simple food and simple games. Simple really can be best.  Keep the party simple and you will have time to enjoy preparing and participating in the party. Keep the party simple and it will also cost you less.

2.      Make a party plan. In other words be prepared. You need to plan ahead, know what you need to do and do as much as is possible before the day of the party. You will create great memories for yourself and your kids because you will have time to enjoy the party with them.

3.      Party Games. Use party games as your party entertainment. Your party will be full of fun and laughter. The kids will love you for planning party games as the entertainment and they are inexpensive too. In my book of party games for kids the games fall into one of four categories, food games, races and relays, musical games and memory games. Four to six games will be enough.

4.      Designated areas. I have found that having a designated area is essential. All the party equipment and supplies are given a designated area where they can be stored and found with ease. This makes it easy leading up to the party and especially the day before and day of the party. This may seem like an unnecessary thing to spend time on, however, it will save plenty of wasted time and stress trying to locate items you know you bought and have forgotten where you put them.

One area in both the fridge and freezer where you can easily locate all the frozen and cold items. Cupboard space, table or the corner of a room for all the non – perishable items.
